Motorbikes

Please Note: This blog post is a teaser for the book, Straight: an ExGay Prodigal Story.

My first motorbike was a Honda XR80, a gift from my parents for my 10th birthday. A few years later, a used Honda XL185 was passed down to me. Scars remain to tell the tale of bounding down wooded paths. Paved roads were strictly forbidden. Dad warned.

When a 1/4 mile stretch of paved road separated us from the next network of trails, temptation often got the best of us. Let’s do it!

As time inched forward, so did the lengths of those forbidden stretches of paved road. If we made it that far, why not 1/2 mile?

Racing along down the main road one summer day, we passed Dad in his work truck. It was a moment I will never forget.

This story mirrors the path I took in life. By the end, I was not able to enjoy the simple things. But God has restored.

Some 25 years later, the Lord has taken me to the Far East, revived the motorcycling skills and sense of adventure that I had first learned as a child in rural Pennsylvania.

“And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten…”    Joel 2:25
