The Meaning behind “Straight”

Judging a book by its cover, one might glance at the title of Straight: an ExGay Prodigal Story and imagine that I am declaring myself “once gay, now straight”. However, if you read the book, you know that I am declaring myself “once (spiritually) blind, but now I can see!” Though the temptation towards men remains, I do not allow it to define me. Rather than following my deceitful heart, I have chosen to follow the inspired Word of God.

The secular world would judge me as still “gay”, living a lie. Increasingly normalized today, these notions are inspired by the “god of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4). What Satan really means is that I am doomed to a life of sodomy, excluded from having a wife and child. Accuser of believers, he comes to steal, kill and destroy (Revelation 12:9-11; John 10:10). I reject his authority and LIES.

The Bible, the source of all truth (2 Timothy 3:16-17), teaches the opposite of the secular world. The Word of God tells us that God created Adam first and then Eve to be his help mate (Genesis 1:27, 2:7, 18, 21-24). A man getting sexy with another man (or woman with woman) is to deny his God-given identity. A woman mimicking men (or vice versa) is to live a lie/fantasy… a perversion of God’s brilliant design (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). Even after multiple surgeries and hormone treatments, a man will always be a man and a woman always a woman. There is no such thing as a “gay” identity, only twisted desires resulting from “the fall” (Genesis 3, 19).

First and foremost, naming the series “Straight” was intended to get your attention. The mere suggestion that someone could go from “gay” to “straight” infuriates people. The title alludes to the narrow, difficult path that leads to everlasting life (Matthew 7:13-14) and the crooked ways made straight (Isaiah 45:2). From the perspective of evangelism (a primary focus of Straight 2), it alludes to “making straight the way of the Lord” (John 1:23).

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” Genesis 1:27

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9

“For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.” Romans 1:26-27

“And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” 1 Corinthians 6:11

There is a way out of a gay lifestyle. Praise the Lord!

God does not promise to delete our temptation to sin. Don’t take it personally. That makes you and me no different from anyone else in the church. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (John 3:16; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 10:9-10). Turn away from following your deceitful heart (Matthew 3:2). Be born again (John 3:3). Deny yourself (Matthew 10:38-39), and fight to follow the Bible (Psalm 119:11, 105)! It won’t be easy (Romans 8:18), but everlasting life in heaven will be worth it (1 Corinthians 2:9)!

“And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.” Matthew 10:38-39
